On Friday 23rd of November 2012 members of the UK Youth Parliament took their seats on the green benches. I was lucky enough to amongst them.
Not only was I sitting on the green benches, I was sat on the front benches awaiting my turn to kick of the debate for Marriage For All at the dispatch box. My speech seemed to go well and even though it didn't get voted as UKYP's National Campaign for the upcoming year I know it's been a helping hand to legalising Same Sex Marriage. I couldn't be happier with the Campaign 'A curriculum to prepare us for life' being our campaign for the upcoming year and I can't wait to get stuck into it.
The day was not only about the MYP's but all the young people that we represent and elected us into our positions. We really have shown the Nation that young people are interested in politics and want to have a say in how our society progresses.
It's hard to completely put into words the experience of debating in the House of Commons as a whole. However, a definite highlight was John Bercow saying just how much he enjoys our debates and that our behaviour is better then the MPs. If that doesn't tell MP's something then I don't know what will.
